Overview: This CE course will describe how to prepare personalized caries management plans for frail older adults, based on assessing the risk of rapid oral health deterioration and how to use age-appropriate caries prevention and restorative treatment techniques and materials.

At the end of the program, participants should be able to:

1. Describe how to assess the risk of rapid oral health deterioration among older adults.

2. List the methods and materials used for caries prevention among older adults.

3. List the methods and materials used for caries restorative treatment among older adults.

4. Prepare viable and customized caries management plans for frail older adults.

9:30 – 10:30 a.m. -- Injection Molding in Restorative Dentistry: Age-Specific Solutions for Esthetic Excellence

Overview: This course explores the versatile application of the injection molding technique to create highly esthetic, minimally invasive, and age-appropriate restorative solutions. Participants will gain insight into how restorative needs and esthetic expectations vary across generations—and how to effectively adapt techniques to meet them. Through clinical examples, this course highlights how digital planning combined with injection molding can produce predictable, long-lasting outcomes tailored to patients of all ages.

At the end of this course, participants should be able to:

1. Adapt restorative strategies to meet age-specific esthetic and functional needs

across different patient populations.

2. Understand the injection molding technique and its application in minimally

invasive, esthetic restorations.

3. Integrate digital treatment planning and smile design into injection molding

workflows for predictable clinical outcomes.

10:45 a.m. – 12:50 p.m. – Substance Use Disorders: Clinical Implications for Dental Practice

Overview: Substance Use Disorders (SUDs) are unfortunately both common and destructive in our society. We will discuss new developments in the neurophysiology and treatment of common SUDs. Dental opioid prescribing has dramatically declined since 2015 and we’ll discuss the most effective pain control options available today Recreational marijuana is currently legal in 24 states and initiatives are underway in many more states. We will review the pharmacology of cannabis products and discuss oral effects and dental treatment ramifications for patients who frequently use cannabinoids with special emphasis on risks of high potency THC among adolescents. Non-opioid SUDs will be examined with the goal of recognizing recent use, oral effects and adjusting dental treatment to ensure patient safety and to avoid medicolegal complications. Detailed handouts will enhance the chairside value of this crucial information.

At the end of this course and reviewing the handouts, participant should be able to:

1. Discuss the neurophysiology and neurotransmitter basis for SUDs,

2. Describe the brain development stages and mental health disorders that predispose to SUDs,

3. List the dental pain management and anesthesia implications of chronic cannabis use,

4. Identify the signs and symptoms & treatment alternatives for alcoholism and other SUDs

If insufficient enrollment necessitates canceling a course, all fees will be refunded.

CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDIT: A CEU verification will be provided by email following the program.
