The purpose of our Exploring the World series is to expand our awareness of other countries, cultures, and health care systems and practices around the world so that we can provide patient-centered care. Dr. Ahmad M. Alkhaza'leh and Dr. Karim Ghishan will discuss Jordan's history, social and religious beliefs and customs, the Jordanian health care and dental education systems, and identify elements that are helpful to consider when treating patients from Jordan.

Description of the course

The purpose of this series is to expand our awareness of other countries, cultures, and health care systems and practices around the world so that we can provide patient-centered care. 

Objectives

  • Describe a brief general history of Jordan
  • Illustrate current social and religious beliefs and customs
  • Explain an overview of the health care system
  • Describe dental education in Jordan
  • Identify interpersonal interactions to consider when treating patients

CE Credit:  All faculty, staff, students, and residents are encouraged to attend.

1 hour CE credit is available for students only. 

Lunch will be provided to the first 40 attendees. 

Speakers

Ahmad M. Alkhaza’leh B.D.S., M.S., MFD (RCSI)

Dr. Alkhaza’leh is a resident in the Department of Operative Dentistry.  He obtained his dental degree from Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) in 2016.   He then attended a 1-year internship in general dentistry.  He was in private practice in Jordan (2017-2019), and he served in a research and teaching assistant role at JUST (2018-2019).

Karim Ghishan BDS

Dr. Ghishan is a Visiting Scholar in the Department of Periodontics.  He obtained his dental degree from JUST in 2020. He then completed a 1-year internship as a general dentist at the Ministry of Health in Jordan.
