The UI College of Dentistry’s Teacher of the Year Awards were presented during the Iowa American Student Dental Association’s (IASDA) annual Talent Show on Friday, May 17 at the Coralville Center for Performing Arts.

Drs. Victor Feitosa, Salah Abuhammoud, Sally Roushdy, and David Gimer, were recognized as Teacher of the Year for the D1 through D4 class. The Department of Prosthodontics took home two of the four awards, while Operative Dentistry and Family Dentistry were also represented.

D1 | Dr. Victor Feitosa, Clinical Assistant Professor, Operative Dentistry

Feitosa is a dentist and faculty member in the Department of Operative Dentistry. He has 10 years of experience teaching in the field of operative dentistry. He earned his DDS, MSc in Dental Materials and PhD in Dental Materials from Piracicaba Dental School at State University of Campinas, Brazil. He was awarded from the students in his first year at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry.

D2 | Dr. Salah Abuhammoud, Assistant Professor, Prosthodontics

Salah Abuhammoud

Abuhammoud, is an Assistant Professor at Prosthodontics Department. Abuhammoud actively adopts new digital workflows, staying abreast of evolving technologies in the field of dentistry. He obtained his (DDS) degree from the University of Jordan in 2011, In 2018, he earned a certificate in prosthodontics from the University of Iowa, along with a master's degree in Oral Science. He became a board-certified prosthodontist and a fellow of the American College of Prosthodontists in 2019.

D3 | Dr. Sally Roushdy, Clinical Assistant Professor, Prosthodontics

Sally Roushdy

Roushdy is a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Prosthodontics. She earned her BDS from the Cairo University School of Dentistry and her MDS in prosthodontics form Indiana University School of Dentistry. Before entering academia, she practiced for more than 10 years as a prosthodontist. She then taught at Detroit Mercy and the University of Florida before joining Iowa’s prosthodontic department. She is a member of the American College of Prosthodontics and American Dental Education Association, and American Dental Association. In addition, Roushdy helped produce the following publications: Conceptualizing patient interactions eliciting empathy, compassion, reflection, and social projection: A model with analysis. and The use of CAD/CAM technology for fabricating cast gold survey crowns under existing partial removable dental prosthesis. A clinical report.

D4 | Dr. David Gimer, Clinical Assistant Professor, Family Dentistry

David Gimer headshot
David Gimer

Gimer is an associate of Family Dentistry. He is a 1976 UI College of Dentistry graduate and an honored fellow of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry (2010). He served four years in the U.S. Navy Dental Corps before returning to a practice in Iowa Falls in 1980. He served as a Central District Officer, including President, from 2004 – 2014. He is also a past-president of the Iowa Academy of General Dentistry.
