Information on preventive and restorative and prosthetic techniques and materials, as well as common medical considerations encountered when treating the medically compromised frail and older adult patient, will be discussed.

Objectives

Participants should be able to:

  • Recognize the concept of “medical and dental clearance”: including the controversial use of antibiotics and safely managing patients on “bisphosphonate type” medication;
  • Discuss new evidence-based restorative concepts and techniques that are useful in these populations;
  • Identify preventive, restorative and prosthetic techniques and circumstances which have been found to be clinically successful; and
  • Summarize the clinical significance of the topics with the presentation of case studies.
