Course Information
This course will be a case study review on soft tissue masses of salivary gland origin. The course will include a discussion of the clinical and historical features of salivary gland tumors with a review of the principles of a head and neck examination, developing a differential diagnosis list, and management strategies of these tumors. There will be an emphasis on the WHO 5th Ed (2022) Classification of Head and Neck Tumors: Salivary Glands.
Course Objectives
At the completion of this program participants should be able to:
- Understand the importance and determine the components of a thorough history in the evaluation of a patient presenting with a soft tissue enlargement.
- Understand the classification schema of salivary gland tumors, including the WHO 5th Ed (2022) Classification of Head and Neck Tumors: Salivary Glands.
- Demonstrate in-depth knowledge and understanding of the etiology, epidemiology, and pathogenesis for the most common and/or serious salivary gland tumors.
- Recognize the clinical and historical features of commonly encountered, as well as many uncommon but important, salivary tumors.
- Formulate a clinical differential diagnosis, develop an initial management or treatment plan, and understand the prognosis for the most common and/or serious salivary gland tumors
"Dental Manifestations of Systemic Disease" Presented by Drs. Kari Maas & Mary Kay Hill
Course Information
Dr. Hill and Dr. Maas will be covering a variety of systemic conditions that are regularly or recently seen at the College of Dentistry, and how they impact the practice of dentistry, including the following:
1) Viral diseases such as HPV, HIV/AIDS, Mumps
2) Chronic systemic conditions such as osteoporosis, obstructive sleep apnea, mental health disorders, tobacco/vape usage
3) Autoimmune diseases such as Sjogrens
Course Objectives
At the completion of this program participants should be able to:
- Understand the significance of the highlighted systemic diseases and/or their treatments, and their impact on the oral cavity.
- Understand how dental treatment may need modification based on specific systemic considerations.
