
Course Description
The pediatric and special health care needs populations that we serve are diverse. Their health needs are diverse, and their risk and resistance to oral pathologies are different. Consequently, our approach has consistently been to apply therapeutics as precisely as possible for each individual. This course will present information to enhance the clinician's knowledge to support their evidence-based decision-making and their ability to apply this knowledge towards patient care. Topics from prevention to restorative care are presented with the supporting oral health guidelines. Current controversies around new and old products and approaches will be presented in light of the best current evidence. Specific approaches for conditions such as molar hypomineralization, management of white spot caries, and the use of digital dentistry in pediatric oral health care will be presented.
Program Objectives
At the completion of this program the participant should be able to:
Be familiar with published guidelines based on the best available evidence regarding different therapeutic approaches for managing patients with dental caries
Be familiar with both non-surgical and surgical approaches for restoring the primary dentition.
Be able to develop a treatment plan that is related to the severity of the enamel defect, the patient’s concerns, and clinical manifestations for patients having molar hypomineralization
Understand indications and approaches for digital dentistry in the management of pediatric patients in the primary mix and early permanent dentit

Speaker Information
Dr. Tim Wright, DDS, MS, James Bawden Distinguished Professor at UNC, Editor at JADA
Tim Wright received his DDS degree from West Virginia University and completed his Pediatric Dentistry training and Master of Science Degree at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He is currently a professor in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry and Dental Public Health at The Adams School of Dentistry at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, where he has served as Pediatric Dentistry Department Chair and Department of Endodontics Interim Chair.
He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, a Fellow of the American Academy for the Advancement of Science, and a Past President of the American Association of Dental Research. He has Chaired the Counsel of Scientific Affairs for the American Dental Association and American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD). He is the current Chair of the AAPD Evidence-Based Dentistry Committee and has published over 215 peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts, edited three textbooks and authored 30 text chapters. Dr. Wright is the Editor in Chief of the Journal of the American Dental Association.
