Chonghwa Kim joined the UI College of Dentistry's Department of Family Dentistry on Dec. 29. Kim brings a wealth of knowledge to the college which will greatly benefit, students, faculty, and patients.
Kim earned his DDS from the University of Michigan in 1997 before obtaining an M.S. in Prosthodontics from the University of Minnesota in 2004. After graduating, Kim moved to Seoul, South Korea, where he spent a few years working as an associate doctor and settled in his own private practice from 2009-2023. While he maintains a full-time practice for 20 years, Dr. Kim has actively participated in the organized dentistry groups where he received various leadership appointments.
In 2013 Kim was awarded the Best Clinical Article by the Korean Journal of Clinical Dentistry and in 2021 he won the Grand Prize in Academic Achievement from the Korean Academy of Esthetic Dentistry. Kim is a member of the Asian Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry (Vice President), International College of Dentists, Korean Dental Association, and Korean Academy of Esthetic Dentistry (Vice President and Chair of Accreditation Program) and Global Academy of Osseointegration (Co-Director).
Kim has also published numerous journal articles and two books.
