Family Dentistry Student Awards

The Department of Periodontics presented three awards at its annual awards luncheon on Wednesday, May 17.

Dr. R.A. Greenawalt Scholarship

The Dr. R.A. Greenawalt Scholarship was established in memory of Dr. R.A. Greenawalt (D.D.S. 1905). It is awarded to a 2nd year dental student with preference given to individuals pursuing a degree in the Department of Periodontics. The recipient of this year’s Dr. R.A. Greenawalt Scholarship is Holly Weber.

Dr. Paula Weistroffer Award for Excellence in Periodontics

The Dr. Paula Weistroffer Award for Excellence in Periodontics is awarded to a 3rd year dental student who has demonstrated excellence in the special of Periodontics and comprehensive person-centered care. In memory of Dr. Paula Weistroffer who will be remembered as an extraordinary teacher with a strong passion for pre-doctoral teaching. This award was created to honor her memory and her dedication to teaching both pre-doctoral students and residents. The criteria are based on academic achievement, clinical proficiency, and research accomplishments.  The awardee receives a certificate of recognition and a financial award. The recipient of this year’s Dr. Paula Weistroffer Award for Excellence in Periodontics is McKenna Schnack.

AAP Student Award

The AAP Student Award is a plaque given to a promising 4th year dental student. This award is sponsored by the American Academy of Periodontology. The recipient of this year’s AAP Student Award is Taylor Leos.
