Faculty, students, and researchers from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry made a strong showing at the 2026 American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research Annual Meeting in San Diego. The meeting brought together investigators from across the world to share new findings in oral, craniofacial, and dental science, and Iowa’s presence reflected the depth and vitality of its research community, particularly the Dental Student Research Program.
The College of Dentistry earned the award for most student presentations, a recognition that underscores Iowa’s long‑standing commitment to student‑driven discovery and scholarly engagement. In total, 35 presenters from Iowa’s student research program shared their work during the meeting, contributing to scientific conversations that aim to improve oral and overall health. Faculty members also gave several presentations at the conference.
Student achievements were also recognized at the national level. Keshav Wagle received a third‑place award in the National Student Research Group 411 program, highlighting the quality and competitiveness of Iowa student research on a national stage.
Several Iowa students participated in high‑profile research competitions during the meeting, further demonstrating the breadth of research interests represented by the college. Tala Hag Ali and Keshav Wagle both presented in the 411 competition at IADR.
Two other students also advanced into discipline‑specific award competitions sponsored by national research organizations. Tala Hag Ali participated in the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry Research Award competition, and Vi Phan presents in the IADR Craniofacial Biology Group Junior Award competition.
Together, these accomplishments reflect the University of Iowa College of Dentistry’s role in preparing future leaders in dental and craniofacial research and in advancing knowledge that supports better health outcomes.
