The Home Care Playbook: Tackling Xerostomia & Oral Home Care Products

Course Description

This one-hour continuing education course provides dental clinicians with a practical overview of dental home care strategies, with an emphasis on xerostomia management. Participants will review common over-the-counter options, including saliva stimulants and substitutes, and learn how to guide patients in their effective use. The course will also touch on high-fluoride home treatments and the evolving landscape of over-the-counter toothpastes and dental hygiene products. Attendees will gain actionable insights to support patient education, improve adherence, and enhance preventive care outcomes.

Learning Objectives

1. Evaluate over-the-counter xerostomia therapies, including saliva stimulants and substitutes, to determine appropriate patient-specific recommendations.

2. Describe the role and appropriate use of high-fluoride products and over-the-counter dentifrices in supporting oral health.

3. Incorporate evidence-informed home care product recommendations into patient education to improve adherence and oral health outcomes.

Speaker Bio

Dr. Amy Greenwood, PharmD is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Oral Pathology, Radiology, and Medicine and a Clinical Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice and Science at the University of Iowa. Dr. Greenwood earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy. She completed a one year post graduate residency in community-based pharmacy practice. She currently teaches and contributes to interdisciplinary education focused on pharmacy practice and oral health.

The Impact of Digital Technology in Prosthodontics Treatment

Course Description:

This presentation will explore current trends in prosthodontic treatment and the growing role of digital technology in contemporary clinical practice. Topics will include the application of artificial intelligence (AI), intraoral scanning, scan bodies, facial scanning, and other emerging digital workflows that are transforming diagnosis, treatment planning, and prosthodontic rehabilitation.

Learning Objectives:

1. Review current digital technology trends in prosthodontic treatment.

2. Understand the clinical applications of digital tools such as AI, intraoral scanners, scan bodies, and facial scanners in prosthodontics.

3. Discuss recent literature and evidence supporting the implementation of digital technology in prosthodontic treatment.

Speaker Bio:

Dr. Mayomhom Udomsinroj earned a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from Thammasat University in Bangkok, Thailand. She subsequently completed a Master of Science in Dentistry (MSD) degree and Residency training in Prosthodontics at Indiana University School of Dentistry in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Dr. Udomsinroj is a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics and holds specialty certification in Prosthodontics from the Royal College of Dentists of Canada. She is a Fellow of both the American College of Prosthodontists (FACP) and the Royal College of Dentists of Canada (FRCDC). She currently serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Prosthodontics at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry.
