The University of Iowa Orthodontics Clinic warmly welcomes Dr. Steve Marshall as an official faculty member, serving as a clinical professor of orthodontics. Dr. Marshall has previously assisted our department, serving as an adjunct faculty member and a visiting associate professor.
Dr. Marshall began his orthodontic education at Knox College, graduating with a bachelor's degree in chemistry. Following his undergraduate studies, he attended the University of Iowa, earning his master's degree in Biochemistry. Dr. Marshall then went on to attend Northwestern University, where he earned his D.D.S. in 1984, and in 1986 he obtained his master's degree in Oral Biology and a certificate in orthodontics. Dr. Marshall has continued to develop his orthodontic education through constant research, licensing, and certifications.
Starting in 1986, Dr. Marshall worked in private practice for over 30 years, retiring in June of 2022. Aside from private practice, Marshall could be seen working with students, serving as an Adjunct/Visiting Associate Professor for both Northwestern University and the University of Iowa. Throughout his career, he has also made great contributions towards orthodontic research, having coauthored or authored 25 different peer-reviewed research publications.

Serving as a Clinical Professor of Orthodontics, Marshall will be integral in the development and education for our residents. His extensive experience in didactic teaching will be a welcomed asset to our clinic, department, and college, helping students prepare for the American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) clinical exams. Dr. Marshall also serves as a consultant examiner for the ABO, as well as helping generate case-based exam questions for the clinical exams. The ABO has granted him a lifetime diplomate status. Our team at the College of Dentistry and University of Iowa Orthodontics Clinic are extremely excited to welcome Dr. Marshall as a faculty member!
