For the second consecutive year, the University of Iowa College of Dentistry's Dental Admissions Office set a record for most dental school applications received in a fifteen-year history when electronic record keeping began for the college.

For the 2023-24 year, the college received 1,135 DDS applications for candidates looking to begin dental school in fall 2024. That surpassed the previous record of 1,074 applications set the previous year.

Over the last five years, applications have skyrocketed from averaging 850 applications per cycle to breaking 1,000 applications the past two years.

"Through strategy, assessment, and flexing our strengths of current DDS students and alums, candidates around the country are becoming aware of the high-quality dental education they will receive at the University of Iowa," Director of Student Admissions Rachael Kowbel said. "Students at Iowa receive first-year clinical experience, they rotate through each of Iowa’s specialties which provides both exposure to specialties and extensive clinical experience, learn from some of the world's best, and have the option to participate in research that is changing the way dentists operate. It's the entire package."

After the application period closes, qualified students are invited to campus to participate in an interview day where they will talk to faculty and staff members, tour the Dental Science Building, and take in the atmosphere of the college.
