The University of Iowa College of Dentistry's Department of Preventive and Community Dentistry hosted a luncheon on May 29 to recognize student accomplishments over the past year.

Ten students were presented awards, including the W. Philip Phair Preventive Dentistry Award, AAPHD Senior Dental Student Recognition Award for Achievement in Community Dentistry and Dental Public Health, Efaw Family Award in Dental Public Health, Eugene W. Young Award for Exceptional Patient Care at Broadlawns Medical Center, Delta Dental of Iowa Foundation Award for Excellence in Geriatric & Special Needs Dentistry, June McCarney Award, Joel B. Huth-Mello Award, Dental Lifeline sponsored Brian Stone Memorial Award, Keith E. Heller Dental Public Health Graduate Research Award, and Samuel Johnston Graduate Student Fellowship Award.  Three senior dental students were also recognized for achieving Distinction in Dental Public Health.

The following students were recognized for their achievements and contributions at the department's luncheon:

  • Jonelle Joseph (Eugene W. Young Award for Exceptional Patient Care at Broadlawns Medical Center)
  • Kaitlyn Tigges (Delta Dental of Iowa Foundation Award for Excellence in Geriatric & Special Needs Dentistry)
  • Megan Wilde (June McCarney Award)
  • Madeline Berry (Joel B. Huth-Mello Award)
  • Makenzi Zikas (Brian Stone Memorial Award – Dental Lifeline)
  • McAllister Castelaz (Keith E. Heller Dental Public Health Graduate Research Award)
  • Diemah Alhekeir (Samuel Johnston Graduate Student Fellowship Award)
  • Sara Escudero, Riley Mann, and Krayton Struve (Distinction in Dental Public Health)
