Keeley Carter, an Administrative Services Manager in the Department of Oral Pathology, Radiology, and Medicine, and Shannon Knipfer, a clerk in the Department of Family Dentistry, are stepping down from their leadership roles on the Staff Development Committee.

Carter (President) and Knipfer (Design) each committed more than 10 years to the committee.

Staff Development requires a team of committed and idea-driven staff members to plan and execute fun, staff-centered monthly or bimonthly events, small celebrations, or community-building events.

In the last ten years, Staff Development invited 200+ staff members to participate in:

● Chili & Soup Cook-offs

● Hat & Mitten, and Local Food Pantry Drives

● Ice Cream Socials

● Basketball Bracket Playoffs

● Tailgating with Popcorn and Hot Dogs

● Dress-up Spirit Weeks

● Valentines & Tooth Fairy Deliveries to Each Department

● Chair Massage

● Ice Cream & Soda Floats

● Halloween Parties with Costume Competitions

● Annual Staff Retreats with speakers like Terri Wahls, and UI Wrestling’s Dan Gable

● They have ordered free classes in Yoga, Cooking, Safety and Self Defense, Budgeting, and Living Healthy Lifestyles.

● Tipping the year off with the Annual Winter Gathering - hors d’oeuvres, potluck-style desserts, and more recently, including the ornament voting.

If you’re excited about being a part of planning and running fun ideas like these and more, please send a message of interest to dent-staffdevelopment@uiowa.edu.
