Dr. William H. DeKock

The field of orthodontics has lost a visionary and devoted leader, Dr. William H. DeKock (60BA, 63DDS, 67MS), who passed away last summer. A beloved professor, practitioner, and mentor, Dr. DeKock dedicated his life to advancing orthodontic care, leaving a lasting mark on the profession and the University of Iowa College of Dentistry Orthodontics Department. 

In honor of his enduring contributions, Margaret "Margie" Ladd DeKock and her family have pledged $200,000 to establish the Dr. William H. and Margaret Ladd DeKock Orthodontics Fund. This endowed fund will support research in the Department of Orthodontics at the University of Iowa, ensuring that future generations of orthodontists continue to innovate and excel in the field.

Dr. DeKock’s career in orthodontics spanned decades, profoundly influencing the profession at every level. After completing his orthodontic training at the University of Iowa in 1967, he founded a successful practice in Cedar Rapids, where he provided compassionate and high-quality care for 35 years. His dedication extended beyond patient care—he served as an adjunct professor for over 40 years, mentoring students and sharing his expertise with future practitioners. 

His leadership reached both national and international levels, as he played a pivotal role in shaping orthodontic standards and education. As a respected diplomat and advocate for orthodontic care, Dr. DeKock’s contributions were instrumental in elevating the profession and enhancing treatment quality worldwide.
