The Department of Preventive and Community Dentistry hosted its inaugural Preventive and Community Dentistry Continuing Education Day (PCD CE Day) on April 11 inside the UI Stanley Museum of Art. The one-of-a-kind event combined art and dentistry in a way never offered by the UI College of Dentistry.

Faculty members Brendan Young, Rohit Nair, Robin McNeil, Jhanvi Desai, and Julie Reynolds gave presentations during the event before a guided museum tour and dinner at The Vue.

The morning session featured a series of presentations and discussions. The first presentation led by Kimberly Datchuck, the Stanley Museum of Art's Curator of Learning and Engagement, discussed the intersection of art and dentistry. Her presentation provided valuable insights into how artistic approaches can enhance patient care and set the tone for the day's activities. In the afternoon, attendees heard presentations on dry mouth and the use of data to improve patient-centered care.

Attendees were taken on a guided tour of the museum, offering them a chance to appreciate the art following a day of continuing education.

The day ended with a dinner at The Vue, providing a fitting conclusion to an enriching continuing education experience.

PCD CE Day will return in 2026 and will be held inside the Old Capitol on the Pentacrest of the University of Iowa. More information will be shared later this year.
