Carlos Garaicoa-Pazmiño, clinical associate professor of periodontics and director of pre-doctoral periodontics, was awarded a 2025 Faculty Award at the Career Impact Award Ceremony, hosted by the Pomerantz Center, for his ability to go above and beyond for students in supporting their career success.

Held May 7 at the Levitt Center, the 2025 Career Impact Award Ceremony recognized and celebrated award-winning students, faculty staff, and business partners who provide Hawkeyes with career resources, guidance, and opportunities in support of career success. University of Iowa President Barbara Wilson was the keynote speaker.

Garaicoa-Pazmiño was one of 23 faculty and staff awardees and the sole representative from the College of Dentistry. Erliang Zen in the Division of Biostatistics and Computational Biology was named a Student Supervisor of the Year in 2024.

Garaicoa-Pazmiño earned his DDS degree from the Universidad Catolica Santiago de Guayaquil, Ecuador (2011) and a certificate and MS degree from the University of Michigan (2017). He served as a clinical assistant professor at the University of Michigan (2017-2019) and Oregon Health & Science University School of Dentistry (2019-2021). He is also affiliated with the Universidad de Especialidades Espiritu Santo (Ecuador) as a research scholar.
