Dr. Azeez Butali, Professor of Oral Pathology, Radiology, and Medicine at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry, has been honored with the prestigious Honoris Causa Award from the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria. The announcement was officially made by the Senate of the College following their meeting on June 3, 2025.
"It feels good to be honored by the highest postgraduate medical college in Nigeria. I am very grateful to my colleagues for finding me worthy," says Butali, "This recognition is definitely a motivation for me to continue my discovery and translational work to prevent orofacial clefts and improve clinical, mental and social outcomes in families with orofacial clefts in Africa and around the world"

The Honoris Causa Award recognizes medical specialists who have demonstrated exceptional excellence in clinical care and training, achieving significant national and international acclaim within their specialty. Notably, the award is presented to distinguished individuals who are not Fellows of the College, underscoring its exclusivity and prestige.
Butali will officially receive this honor at the 19th Annual Scientific Conference and All Fellows Congress (ASCAF), scheduled to take place from August 4-8, 2025, at the International Conference Centre in Sokoto State, Nigeria.
Butali’s international recognition and dedication to advancing the field of oral pathology, radiology, and medicine reflect his commitment to academic excellence, research, and clinical practice.
