Dr. Jeremy Bobera, a 2025 graduate from the Department of Periodontics, has been named one of eight finalists in the prestigious Balint Orban Memorial Competition, part of the American Academy of Periodontology's (AAP) 2025 Annual Meeting. The competition will be held on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, from 1 to 4:30 p.m. in Toronto, Canada.

Bobera's research, titled "Obesity Disrupts Oral Homeostasis: A Multi-Site Analysis of Metabolome, Microbiome, and Immune Profiles," explores critical connections between obesity and oral health, investigating how obesity impacts oral biological systems through metabolomic, microbiomic, and immunologic pathways.

The Balint Orban Memorial Competition is highly esteemed within the periodontal research community, recognizing exceptional, original research by periodontal residents and recent graduates. Finalists will present their research findings during the AAP Annual Meeting, where they compete for top honors.

As a finalist, Bobera will receive complimentary registration for the Annual Meeting, airfare to Toronto, and lodging accommodations.
