On Wednesday, April 12, Iowa Dentistry participated in the annual Hawkeye Caucus Day in Des Moines. It was a great opportunity to highlight how vital the college and our clinics are to the State of Iowa and how important Iowa is to the college.

    With integrated specialists to manage all aspects of complex care including cleft lip/palate, genetic anomalies, and head and neck cancer.

  • Meeting Patient Needs

    Our dental clinics have more than 162,500 patients visit per year.

  • Meeting the Needs of Low-income Patients

    Along with federal-qualified health centers in Iowa, the University of Iowa is a primary provider for Medicaid dental care in the State of Iowa. We accept all new Dental Wellness Plan patients and had over 50,000 visits from such patients in 2022.

    With a top 10 ranking in federal funding among dental schools, Iowa is a national leader in dental, oral, and craniofacial research, producing groundbreaking discoveries fundamentally changing dentistry and making lasting impressions on the health of Iowans.

    Craniofacial genetics, bioengineering and regenerative medicine, oral cancer, and dental public health and health policy

    The Iowa Mission of Mercy is a major public health event for our state providing free dental care to people from all over the State of Iowa. Each year, the College of Dentistry plays a vital role in providing care on a Saturday with over 100 students, residents, faculty, and staff supporting dental needs across Iowa.

    Among all accredited dental schools in the US, Iowa ranks 3rd in terms of the number of hours that Iowa dental students spend in clinics.
