Course Description

The objective of this course is to provide an overview of radiographic anatomy of the maxilla and mandible on intraoral radiographs and pantomographs. Numerous examples of each structure and its variations will be discussed. Positional errors while acquiring pantomographs will be covered.

Objectives

At the end of this course participants should be able to:

  • Identify anatomical structures and landmarks of the Maxilla and Mandible on intraoral Radiographs;
  • Identify and recognize anatomy of jaws and surrounding structures on Pantomographs; and
  • Identify errors in positioning of a patient while making radiographs and understand consequential changes to the radiological anatomy.

Upon completion of the course, there is a quiz consisting of 10 multiple choice questions. Answering a minimum of 7 questions correctly is needed to obtain CE credits.

Trishul Allareddy

Trishul Allareddy (’09 MS), professor in the Department of Oral Pathology, Radiology, and Medicine, was named the Department Executive Officer of his department in 2021. Allareddy earned a Bachelor of Dental Science degree from Ragas Dental College and Hospitals (2002) before completing a certificate in oral and maxillofacial radiology (2007) and M.S. in stomatology with an emphasis in oral and maxillofacial radiology (2009) at the University of Iowa.  Allareddy began as a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Radiology in 2009 and joined the faculty at the College of Dentistry as a clinical associate professor in 2012. He became the program director for Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology in 2014, became a clinical professor in 2015, and then a professor in 2020.

Allareddy is an established expert and leader in the field of radiology. In particular, Allareddy is a leader and key player in identifying and determining standards for the discipline of oral radiology, and an expert in the use and analysis of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT).

In addition to his numerous publications, Allareddy also lends his expertise as a co-investigator for numerous grants from the National Institutes of Health, various professional associations, and industry. 

Allareddy is also a respected teacher and mentor, serving students on thesis committees for oral radiology, other dental specialties, and for the Dental Student Research Program.
