The American College of Surgeons is dedicated to improving the care of surgical patients and safeguarding standards of care in an optimal and ethical practice environment. Members of the ACS are referred to as “Fellows.” The designation FACS (Fellow, American College of Surgeons) following a surgeon’s name signifies that the surgeon’s education and training, professional qualifications, surgical competence, and ethical conduct have passed a rigorous evaluation process, and have been found consistent with the high standards established by the College.

Marschall now joins University of Iowa Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons Drs. Richard Burton, Steven Fletcher, Kirk Fridrich, and Douglas Kendrick as Fellows of the ACS, further extending the college’s legacy of excellence in oral and maxillofacial surgery.

Marschall earned both his dental and medical degrees from the University of Louisville, where he also completed an internship in general surgery and residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery. Following residency, he pursued a fellowship in pediatric cleft and craniomaxillofacial surgery at the Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando, Florida. He also completed a research fellowship in tissue engineering at the University of Zurich hospital in Switzerland.

His clinical practice focuses on maxillofacial and craniofacial surgery, with expertise in reconstructive facial surgery for traumatic and acquired conditions, orthognathic surgery, cleft lip and palate repair, and complex craniofacial conditions. His research interests include computer-aided design and manufacturing, 3D printing, craniofacial tissue engineering, and evaluating surgical outcomes in pediatric craniofacial conditions.
