The University of Iowa Department of Endodontics delivered a strong academic presence at the 2026 American Association of Endodontists Annual Meeting in Salt Lake City, Utah, showcasing the department’s commitment to advancing endodontic education, research, and clinical practice.
The Iowa Endodontics contingent presented five scientific posters and one table clinic, all prepared and delivered by endodontic residents and a visiting scholar under the mentorship of department faculty. The collaborative effort reflected the department’s emphasis on research guidance, critical thinking, and clinically relevant scholarship.
The presentations explored contemporary challenges and innovations in endodontics, with a focus on evidence-based practice and improving patient outcomes. Conference attendees responded positively to the posters for their scientific rigor, clarity, and practical applications.
The department’s table clinic provided an interactive educational setting for discussion and demonstration of contemporary techniques and concepts, drawing consistent interest throughout the session.
A highlight of the University of Iowa’s presence at the meeting was a featured presentation by Dr. Abhishek Parolia titled “Advanced Technologies in Root Canal Disinfection and Endodontic Outcome: Are We Doing Enough?” The session examined current and emerging disinfection technologies and their impact on treatment outcomes while encouraging clinicians to consider whether existing protocols adequately address biological and clinical complexities.
Parolia shared the platform with distinguished international speakers Dr. Shanon Patel of the United Kingdom and Dr. Luis Montero of Canada, bringing a global perspective to the discussion. Together, the presenters explored modern endodontic challenges and innovations, encouraging engagement among clinicians, educators, and researchers.
The session was well attended and recognized for its relevance, depth, and forward-looking perspective.
Overall, the Department of Endodontics’ participation at AAE 2026 reflected the strength of its academic programs, faculty mentorship, and trainee engagement. The department’s contributions enriched the meeting’s scientific program and reinforced its reputation as a leader in endodontic education and research.
