It’s Not Just About Getting Great Dental Care at a Lower Cost.
You are helping to train Iowa's next generation of dentists.
- The student clinics offer patient-centered care with cutting edge technology.
- Treatment is closely supervised by faculty dentists and specialists.
Treatment takes longer than in private practice and we need:
Patients who have the time to stay for half-day appointments.
Reliable patients who will keep their appointments.
Committed patients who will follow through on treatment recommendations and help our students get the experiences they need.
Cassandra W.'s Review
"I have always been afraid of going to the dentist. This was the first time I did not fear getting treatment. My 4th year student, Jeremy, was extremely patient and caring, and very professional as were all the dentists/instructors that work with the students. I would highly recommend the College of Dentistry."

Steps for Becoming a Comprehensive Care Patient in Student Clinics
Patients who want full, comprehensive dental care must complete a 3-step process.
Step 1: Screening in the Admissions Clinics
- This is a screening only—not a complete examination; no dental treatment will be provided at this appointment.
- For this screening, a faculty dentist performs a brief oral exam, reviews your health history, medications, dental needs, and your ability to keep appointments to determine whether you are a good candidate for our student clinics (or potentially our resident clinics).
- There is a charge for the screening.
- have x-rays taken, if needed. (you will be charged for any x-rays taken)
- discuss your dental needs, concerns, options for treatment and clinic assignments, if applicable.
Step 2: X-rays in the Radiology Clinic
- X-rays are usually taken on the same day as your screening.
- If your previous dentist has current x-rays for you, they must be sent prior to your screening appointment. The faculty dentist will decide if new x-rays are needed.
- You will be charged for any x-rays taken.
Step 3: Comprehensive Exam in Assigned Clinic
- A dental student provider, under faculty supervision, throughly examines your mouth, teeth, and gums. Treatment options, costs, and an approximate timeline are discussed to allow you to make an informed decision about your care.
- You may request to meet with our Business Office staff.
- Once you agree to and sign a treatment plan that meets your dental needs you are ready to schedule your next appointment and begin treatment.
