Fall Picnic 2021
Fall Picnic 2021
Operative held its annual Fall Picnic in September at a local park. It was a beautiful afternoon to enjoy the outdoors and cuisine from a delicious food truck. The children almost outnumber the adults and it was so much fun to watch them play and grow together
Canoe Trip 2021
A group from Operative took the challenge of canoeing the Maquoketa river in August. Working in pairs to navigate the river, all 12 canoes made it back safely and only a few got wet.
Spring Banquet 2021
The Operative Dentistry Department celebrated another successful academic year during the annual Spring Banquet on June 2nd. Student awards were presented, faculty and staff years of services were honored and graduating residents were congratulated.
Graduate Picnic 2021
Operative's graduating residents were celebrated with a picnic on May 22nd at Kent Park. Delicious BBQ and cuisine from around the world was had by all along with outdoor activities.

The Department of Operative Dentistry held their annual Spring Banquet on Thursday, May 16 at Wilson's Ciderhouse in Iowa City. Nine students were presented awards ranging from excellence in operative dentistry to recognition for research efforts.

Dentistry faculty receives Nakao Foundation grant to compare restoration outcomes for older adults

The Nakao Foundation awarded Akimasa Tsujimoto a 90K+ grant to compare outcomes of four restorative materials—glass hybrid, conventional glass ionomer cement, resin-modified glass ionomer cement, and resin-based composition restorations—among adults age 65 or older. In particular, the researchers are evaluating whether glass ionomer-based restorations may have superior clinical outcomes for this population than resin-based composite restorations.

The Japanese company, GC Corporation, awarded Akimasa Tsujimoto a grant to investigate evaluate the fatigue bond strength to enamel and dentin of their new 2-step universal adhesive comparing it to other representative adhesives. This project shows the value of industry-academic partnerships to meet industry needs and improve clinical practices.

The Japanese company, Kuraray, awarded Akimasa Tsujimoto a grant to investigate whether their newly developed light-cure resin luting cement will effectively reduce wear and prevent gap formations between ceramic veneers and teeth. This project shows the value of industry-academic partnerships to meet industry needs and improve clinical practices.

The American Academy of Cariology (AAC) held its 6th Annual Conference, "Caries Prevention in a Modern World: Infants, Children, Adolescents and Special Health Care Needs Population," in conjunction with the annual meeting of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. Several faculty presented their research and Sandra Guzman-Armstrong was elected president of the AAC.
