Oral Science Research Program
The College of Dentistry's Oral Science Program, offered as an M.S. and a Ph.D., equips graduates for a career in teaching and research.
Both programs require students to complete courses from a core curriculum and conduct independent research leading to a thesis.
Dental Specialty Residency Programs
The College of Dentistry offers advanced education programs in ten of the twelve dental specialties recognized by the American Dental Association and innovative advanced training programs in two other specialties.

NIH Awards Olberding Training Grant to Investigate Genetic Mechanisms of Jaw Development

Jaclyn Olberding, a training grant recipient in the Iowa Institute for Oral Health Research and a PhD student in the Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Genetics, has been awarded an NIH F31 grant to support her dissertation research.

Six Student Researchers Earn Senior Research Achievement Awards

Senior Research Achievement Awards are determined based on a portfolio of research that is circulated to a group of electors. The electors select award recipients based on the scientific merit of projects, the significance and productivity of projects, the number of years of involvement in research, the originality of the research, and the student's professional conduct. Award recipients were selected in 2026: Jessica Fuessley, Saba Manafi, Vi Phan, Jeremiah Poppen, Christina Spencer, and Taylor Westphal.
