The UI College of Dentistry's Department of Prosthodontics hosted a luncheon on May 14 to recognize student accomplishments over the past academic year. Nine students were presented awards.

The National Institutes of Health awarded three Iowa dental researchers, Hongli Sun, Shaoping Zhang, and Erliang Zeng, a $660,000 exploratory grant to investigate an innovative strategy for treating bone loss that tends to accompany periodontitis. This strategy uses tissue engineering strategies that can reduce bone loss and regenerate bone tissue.

The Department of Operative Dentistry held their annual Spring Banquet on Thursday, May 16 at Wilson's Ciderhouse in Iowa City. Nine students were presented awards ranging from excellence in operative dentistry to recognition for research efforts.

The UI College of Dentistry honored four faculty members - Drs. Victor Feitosa, Salah Abuhammoud, Sally Roushdy, and David Gimer - as Teachers of the Year at IASDA's annual Talent Show on May 17.

Chris Bogue, a 2002 graduate of the UI College of Dentistry, was installed as the 161st Iowa Dental Association President on May 3 during IDEAS24.

Jhanvi Desai and Dan Caplan received a $10,000 grant from the Delta Dental of Iowa Foundation to support a one-year pilot project that aims to increase awareness among students and communities across Iowa of various dental service models and career opportunities in underserved areas.

Clark Stanford, dean of the UI College of Dentistry and Dental Clinics, was awarded the Outstanding Service Award from the Iowa Dental Association (IDA) on May 3.

Juhi Uttamani received a $67,000 grant to investigate immune dysfunction among COVID-19 patients. Uttamani is working with colleagues at the University of Illinois in Chicago under a National Institutes of Health grant.

A large contingent of Iowa Dentistry faculty, students, and alumni attended and presented at the National Oral Health Conference April 15-17 in St. Louis, MO.
