At the spring meeting of Dental Student Research Group, Mary Young received the award for 2024 Outstanding Dental Researcher. 

Dr. Salahaldeen Abuhammoud was named the 2023-24 Student Research Mentor of the Year by the Iowa Chapter of the American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research. This award was presented in recognition of his efforts to enhance students research at the College of Dentistry.

Senior Research Achievement Awards are determined based on a portfolio of research that is circulated to a group of electors. The electors select award recipients based on the scientific merit of projects, the significance and productivity of projects, the number of years of involvement in research, the originality of the research, and the student's professional conduct. Award recipients were selected in 2024: Colton Curtis, Sara Escudero, Luke Hovey, Arshi Mungal, Mandi Seaberg, and Mary Young.

The UI College of Dentistry's Department of Preventive & Community Dentistry hosted a luncheon on May 29 to recognize student accomplishments over the past academic year.

The Department of Family Dentistry held its annual Student Award Luncheon on May 23. 12 awards were presented.

Sara Stuefen ('10 DDS) will become the District 10 Trustee for the American Dental Association in October. It's an important opportunity for Stuefen to bring a new perspective and energy to the national organization.

For the second consecutive year, a partnership between the UI College of Dentistry and Dental Clinics and His Hands Dental Clinic in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, has resulted in robust clinical outreach experience for first- second- and third-year dental students.

The Geriatric and Special Needs Program was selected as a recipient of the 2024 University of Iowa Health Care Culturally Responsive Health Care award, which recognized health care professionals who have demonstrated exceptional dedication and innovation in addressing health disparities.
